Kai’s response to Valhael had been as unexpected as hers had been to him a few moments ago. Her eyes blinked rapidly as he stumbled over his words, and as she pieced together his meaning, a slow flush began to creep over her own cheeks, too. How strange, for his response to make her feel this way. What was this feeling, anyway?
The prospect that they might indeed not have to part ways so soon, that neither would have to be alone, that he might actually in fact want her to travel with him…
“I…” A pause, she looked down, suddenly shy and not really knowing why. “I would like that, too.” An anxious, uncertain smile, as nervous as he, and confused as to where this bashfulness had come from. She lifted her chin then, pushing away the feeling of awkwardness as best she could, turning her attentions to their journey ahead, which seemed much brighter now she would not face it alone. “Then it’s settled.” A grin, the sunny disposition that she had awoken with, returning. She turned on her heel, heading towards the cave opening, talking as she went.
“Which way should we go? North? South? Well, which way were you headed before we met?”

Thankfully, Valhael took his words the way he had intended them and moved beyond his stumbling delivery, even grinning as she headed out of the cave.
It gave Kaitan a moment to settle, taking a deep, silent breath to steady himself. Traveling with someone was an entirely new experience, and while at least the elf already knew his secret, it was still… different.
“I wasn’t headed anywhere,” Kaitan replied truthfully as he followed Valhael outside, still visibly tired by the dark circles under his eyes, but at least not as weak as he was the day before. He glanced towards the town that had been the epicenter of the rift break, but said nothing as he looked away again. “I only ever traveled to avoid hunters and wardens. We can go where you were headed before.”

Valhael nodded in understanding at Kai’s words, she easily recognised the need to be away from such people. At his suggestion that they try where she was headed, she shrugged one shoulder none-committedly. “I was just trying to get as far away from Tevinter as possible, whilst avoiding templars.” She replied. Ironic, then, that she had ended up running straight into the latter.
Tevinter Imperium. A nation ruled by mages. A great city known for it’s perilous history, one of elf enslavement and civil war. That is, if Kai had heard of such a place. If he hadn’t, she was not eager to delve into the subject, so she began to walk, looking up at the sky as she did so, working out which way North was by the rising sun. “How about we head this way?” She pointed to illustrate her meaning. “We can stick to the forests for cover.” There was another reason she wanted to stick to the forests, but again, she was not eager to volunteer reasons as to why.

Kaitan didn’t recognize the place she mentioned, his experience with two-legged races still limited for rather obvious reasons. But he chuckled a little at her response, amused that they essentially had the same destination: away from danger.
Settling the mostly empty bag over his shoulder, Kaitan nodded as she pointed, although she could have really pointed anywhere but where they came from without compliant. “If we stick to the forest, it’ll be easier to hide our steps,” he agreed, not voicing the fact that he would again need to sleep as he continued to regain his full strength, and it was much easier to find shelter in the shady depths of a forest rather than in the open landscape, even if just a simple grove. “Let’s go,” he added, but waited for Valhael to lead, as her anti-destination was an easier one to track than his.

They began to walk.
The weather was kinder that morning, warm in the sun, if a little chilly in the shade. Valhael felt a little bounce in her step, happy to find herself no longer alone. The stresses of the last few days seemed to have melted away with ease, and she felt safer travelling than she had since she’d first fled from Tevinter. It was ironic, as she actually knew very little about the one she travelled with. This, she was determined to rectify, leading into some questions that Kai would probably wish had remained unasked.
"So, you said you weren't travelling anywhere in particular... do you not have anyone to go back to?”
Straight to the point, then. She had meant in regards to family or friends, but in retrospect it had sounded as if she were asking if he had a partner...

Kaitan took longer to acclimate to having a traveling companion than Valhael, used to keeping a watchful ear out for anyone trailing after him, any other being a possible threat. To make that distinction, between any noise and Valhael’s own soft sounds, became impossible, and Kaitan slowly fell into having to accept that he couldn’t simply keep watch as he always had before.
It was this slightly distracted mindset that Valhael interrupted, earning initially a noncommittal shrug. “No… I’ve been alone for… a while,” he began, but mid sentence wondered exactly she had meant by her question, and had initially thought she was referring to a mate. But just because she had curled up in his arms didn’t mean anything… or that it happened twice.
“Just… keeping on the move. From hunters… n-no time for… connections.”
He awkwardly cleared his throat, looking away, trying to cover as many uncertain little responses as he was in variations to her question. “S-so, other than Tevinter, do you have… connections… with anyone?”
His question was, in retrospect, as vague sounding as her own question had been, even if in truth it was far more targeted than that.
